Almost all of the brooches begin with seven to ten antique Mississippi River clamshell pearl buttons, ranging from 40-70 years old. It is very well organized and provides all of the knowledge to get you started in the fascinating world of Vintage Designer Costume Jewelry. Warman's Jewelry-3nd Edition in their Encyclopedia of Antiques
and Collectibles series. Krause Publications, 1998. This book has
wonderful information
on Designer Costume Jewelry, as well as sections on Victorian Jewelry,
broken into Early, Mid and Late Eras. Art Nouveau and Edwardian are
also discussed, as well as areas of Fine Jewelry. Included are primers
into Native American, Mexican, and Scandinavian Jewelry. This is a must
for the beginner to get an overall perspective of Vintage Jewelry.

For Serious Collectors and Dealers-Sheila Recommends Brunialti, Carla Ginelli & Roberto. American Costume Jewelry 1935-1950. Edizioni Gabriele Mazzotta 1997. A meticulously researched book with hundreds of photographs and drawings and individual information on the designers, patents, dates, marks and measurements. Takes you through a guided tour through the jewelry of each European country with information on the history, influences and innovations of all the major designers.
